French Vintage Biot Plates Set of 8 from the maker Biot Orange Ochre Glaze
A beautiful example of the iconic traditional heavy glazed faience pottery from the seaside village of Biot on the Cote d'Azur. This lovely set of 8 plates has a typical provencal scalloped edge design with the classically luminous burnt orange ochre glaze. The iconic makers mark of two figure eights with the four letters BIOT is stamped on the base signifying the 16 Genoese families that saved the pottery heritage of the town in the 15th century after years of war.
These iconic collectible plates would bring the warmth of Provence to any space. They are all in almost perfect condition with only one tiny nibble on one plate edge and some subtle crazing in the glaze.
