Rare Antique French Spherical Salad Drying Wire Basket, Egg Basket
This special french wire basket is a lovely example of handmade iron wirework. A beautiful spherical shape with two hinged quarter sides that open to make a wire bowl and close to carry.
This interesting piece was originally used to dry salad leaves, think of a handheld salad spinner. Now the lovely shape and design make for a beautiful display piece and a fun conversation piece. Rare, delicate, and hard to find today in such lovely condition it is a true collectible.
It is now in its antique distressed phase of life dating from the early part of the 20th century, so I think it has done its salad duty. It has a lovely rusty patina that makes it a great decor showpiece but can certainly be used for holding some hard root veggies, eggs, nuts, or other things that can stand up to a rustic finish. it is in great condition overall, slightly yet adorably lopsided but sturdy as can be. This piece just needs to be cared for and adored.
